Raised or Elevate Bed & Cold Frames!
Everyone is getting very excited about Spring! It is not quite time to get out into the soil & get digging, but it is the perfect time to get ready ... One project you could engage in is building raised beds, cold frames or even an elevated garden bed. Check out these helpful links or send us some of your plans & ideas?

Once you have constructed a raised bed, you could also build a cold frame .... and the beauty of a cold frame is, you can plant greens, peas and other cold hearty veggies in them right away!

spring is springing
yes, it might be a little early for these summer like temperatures, but the spring lover in me can't help but love & photograph signs that the season(s) i love best is coming to life all over the place at a rapid pace. These are mostly flowers, but it's a start and preview of what's to come!
i love the persistence of these little lilies poking through a pile of gravel!

Home grown food is healthy!
This is an interesting chart that I came across via social networking. We know that food picked unripe and travelling far distances doesn't taste as good or isn't as good for you as freshly picked garden produce, but I had no idea that the nutrient levels would vary this much. Grow your own Food!

Holy Cross Secondary School's Eco-Club are selling rain barrels for the Honduran Awareness project for only $50. The school receives $10 for each one sold. This worthy fundraiser supports a hardworking local school, much needed water conservation and a charitable cause. Seedy Sunday: This Weekend
Peterborough's 8th annual Seedy Sunday is the perfect place to get the inspired for Spring. Come out to get all the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to get growing this season. There will be an incredible diversity of vegetable and flower seeds available for sale. There will also be local community groups showcasing the great food work they do, informative hands-on workshops, and an area where you can trade seeds with other gardeners.

Seedy Sunday & St. Paddy's Day Parade
Just discovered that the St. Paddy's Day Parade will be leaving City Hall
at 2pm on Sunday March 11th. This inevitably coincides and may
influence access to the George St. United Church venue.
So this is just a heads up that YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO GET TO SEEDY SUNDAY AT GEORGE ST. UNITED CHURCH but as parking may be at a premium and closure of some side streets will require alternative routes, if possible, consider walking, biking or car-pooling.
The parade starts at 2pm, and streets will re-open as it moves along, so access to George St. & McDonnel streets will open up significantly as the afternoon progreses.
