I am continually awed by the fact that i get to be involved with this project. An exciting group has come together to organize around the Lift Lock Community Garden. In partnership with Parks Canada & Peterborough Green-Up, and support from the Peterborough Community Garden Network, we have many things in place that make this project already quite innovative and precedent setting.
* These pictures are views of the south end of the Garden. In the foreground is the County EMT office. There are already many beautiful trees on the site*
All of us hope to break ground this Fall, before it freezes up; and work hard next year to make this showcase garden a beautiful & bountiful addition to the already well visited Peterborough Lift Lock. Ideally garden projects like this one will be re-created all along the Lift Lock Waterway System and perhaps eventually on Parks Canada sites across the Nation!
*Here is the the groups assembled in the garden taking measurements & dreaming of gardens to come. The grassy section surrounding us is only a portion of what will become garden over the next three years*
We are lucky to have Peter Hughes as our Coordinator for this first season. Bringing with him lots of experience from Coordinating the Fleming Community Garden for the past four years and a plethora experience in the field gardening building community, he is a great facilitator for the team of dedicated, innovative and inspiring group of gardeners who make up the Liftlock Community Garden Group. Amongst the group we have engineers, academics, scientists, community garden organizers, writers, fundraisers, publicists . . . the list goes on & on. Stay Tuned!
